What is the carry-on weight limit for Qantas?

Related: Pegasus Airlines Sizes: Luggage, Seats…

Qantas allows different carry-on weights depending on the class of travel and your travel destination. The Australian domestic Dash-8 fleet allows passengers to bring on board baggage of up to 7kgs. This baggage allowance applies to all classes and was put in place due to the small size of the overhead lockers. Australian domestic flights, besides the Dash-8, allow a baggage weight of up to 10kgs. While bag sizes differ, their weight should not exceed the weight restriction. This strict measure applies to all classes of travel.

The passenger is allowed to bring on board one wheelie bag and a small backpack, both of which should not exceed 14kgs in total. The passenger will be required to hand over their wheelie bag to the baggage handlers who will carry it on board for them. Frequent flyers with Qantas get to enjoy an additional baggage allowance free of charge; frequenters whose flights are either operated by the QantasLink (with a QF flight number) or by Emirates and have an EK or QF number when booking. These flights only operate within Australia, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, North Africa, and New Zealand.

Note that the baggage allowance for frequent flyers is only eligible for flights operated by Qantas, QantasLink, and Emirates. Bringing more baggage when using other flights will attract fines. To be safe, check with the baggage policy for whichever flight you use.

  3. Gold Qantas Frequent Flyers have an additional baggage allowance. 46kgs (101lb) for economy class, 56kgs (123lb) for premium economy and business classes, and 66kgs (146lb).
  4. Platinum Qantas Frequent Flyers’ baggage allowance goes up to 50kgs (110lb) for economy class, 60kgs (132lb) for premium economy and business classes, and 70kgs (154lb) for first-class passengers.

Their baggage policy will take effect on all your flights to your destination. Persons with a disability traveling to or from the USA or Canada are allowed to carry on their mobility aids (which are not included in their baggage allowance).

Can I take 2 bags as checked luggage in Qantas?

Related: JetBlue Airline Sizes: Luggage, Seats…

Yes, as long as their total weight is within the required baggage allowance. Generally, all Qantas passengers have a baggage weight limit of 32kgs (70lb).

Luggage allowance for Qantas international flights 2022 to and from North and South America

  • Economy class passengers are confined to bringing one bag with a maximum weight of 32kgs (70lb). Premium economy and business class passengers can have 2 bags, each weighing 32kgs at most. First class passengers have the leeway of having 3 checked bags, each weighing 32kgs as well.
  • Qantas Frequent Flyers and Qantas Club members viz-a-viz the classes of service for travels to and from the Americas:
  • Silver and Gold Qantas Frequent Flyers and Qantas Club members have a luggage size of 3 checked bags each 32kgs at most for all classes.
  • Platinum and Platinum One Qantas Frequent Flyers have an allowance of 3 bags at 32kgs per bag. This applies to economy and premium economy classes. Business and first classes under this category can have 4 checked bags at 32kgs each.

The above luggage allowance will also apply to your domestic flight if your domestic and international flights are on the same ticket. You could use the international luggage allowance if you purchased the international and domestic flights on different tickets if only you bought them on the same calendar day. The process might be a little hectic for the latter option but be sure to have both tickets with you.

Luggage allowance for Australian domestic travels

  • Qantas Airways flights allow one piece of baggage of a maximum of 23kgs (50lb) for economy class and 2 bags of a maximum of 32kgs (70lb) each for business class. The same policy applies to Qantas Club members and Silver Qantas Frequent Flyers.
  • Gold Qantas, Platinum, and Platinum One Frequent Flyers can carry 2 pieces of baggage each 32kgs at most for both economy and business classes.

What are the exceptions?

While Qantas Airways ltd posts travel timetables, all passengers are required to be prepared in case of any last-minute aircraft changes.

If traveling on the Qantas Dash 8-Fleet, you’ll only carry on board 23kgs of baggage. If carrying two bags, the bigger one should be 14kgs maximum as the smaller one weighs 9kgs at most. The passenger should be prepared in case they are required to separate their bags so that some can be carried on a different aircraft.

For this category, Qantas Frequent Flyers don’t have an additional weight allowance. Moreover, these flights’ sole destination is Lord Howe Island.

Qantas frequent flyers from the airline’s Oneworld partners operate under the following baggage policy:

  • International travelers for economy class have a baggage allowance of up to 30kgs. Oneworld Ruby has the same weight allowance of 30kgs, Sapphire at 45kgs, and Emerald has 50kgs.
  • International flights to the Americas – Economy and Oneworld Ruby passengers are allowed one piece of baggage weighing 32kgs. Sapphire passengers can carry 2 x 32kg bags while Emerald clients can carry 3 bags each of the same weight (3 x 32kgs).

For Domestic Australia, all the classes of travel must have a maximum weight of 32kgs regardless of the number of bags.

Frequently Asked Questions

How strict is Qantas Airways with baggage size?

Both Qantas international and domestic flights have strict baggage allowance policies that have to be adhered to. While domestic flights can go a little loose and let your oversized baggage in, international flights are a little more strict. Hence, it pays to understand which baggage allowance you’ll be operating under because the allowances tend to change often.

You can see the baggage allowance during the booking process. The Qantas Airways bookings website is designed to provide the most important information before the passenger pays so they can give thought to the services offered. Do you have a booking already? Check your ticketed baggage allowance at the managed booking site on the Qantas Airways website or contact a travel agent for personalized assistance. You might be using different carriers in your itinerary, in which case the more significant carrier’s baggage policy will apply.

How big are economy seats in Qantas Airways?

Economy seats in Qantas Empire Airways are generous enough for an averagely-sized passenger. Passengers love the Qantas Airways A380 and A330 for their comfort-customized seats. With an ergonomic slimline the seat is designed to offer optimal lumbar support. Sitting on these seats is not a problem for long journeys because of their sufficient sizes: 43.7cm (17.2 inches) wide and 76.2cm (30 inches) pitch. They also have a 12.7cm (5 inch) recline and an adjustable headrest that serves you comfort during long flights.

The seat rows are adequately spaced out to accommodate a netted footrest. Average and slightly taller people can fit into these spaces without knee issues. The space is also enough for recline leaving out enough leg room. Additionally, the seats’ armrests have smooth pads that are friendly for your arms even when placed for many hours. Their four-way headrests are also big enough to offer support during random head movements when sleeping.

These seats are available in the Qantas B737-800, which is a Qantas Air New Zealand, that traverses the South Pacific and other oceanic destinations, among other long-distance planes.

Does Qantas Airways have a first class?

Yes! Flying first class with Qantas has its perks, from added baggage allowance to optimal comfort for both short and long flights. You have a baggage allowance of up to 3 bags each weighing 32kgs (70 pounds) at $0. You won’t face any delays from long queues because of the priority check-in station dedicated to first-class travelers.

The seats/suites designs are intentionally aimed to bring you ultimate comfort with in-built massage features and a turn-down service that you need for any flight. While the suites are designed to fit two people, you might want to have it all to yourself just for the level of comfort.

Wondering how to get a Qantas first-class ticket? Simply visit the Qantas airways website and enter your travel dates and destination. The next screen will show first-class options from which to choose. The cost will pop up once you choose the seat (from the seat map) especially if you have a frequent flyer account. The website keeps releasing new seats, hence, keep an eye on the site.

What are the luggage size guidelines for Qantas Airways?

International flights allow one piece of baggage weighing 7kgs and 115cm in dimensions for economy passengers. Higher classes allow on board one bag weighing 7kgs with 115cm dimensions and a smaller non-rigid bag.

Sporting or musical equipment whose weight and dimensions exceed the above will travel as Qantas Air freight where additional charges will apply.

What are the toiletries sizes for Qantas Airways?

Qantas passengers carrying on board toiletries must adhere to the 3-1-1 liquid rule as well as the airline’s size policy. LAGs (liquids, aerosols, and gels) have to be screened before they’re allowed in for safety purposes. This happens to both domestic and international flights. At the checkpoint, you’ll be required to present all your liquids in a clear (transparent) plastic bag, all of them bottled in 100ml containers.

You will also need to present the powders you’re carrying, both organic and inorganic, for screening. There’s no restriction on the number of organic powders you carry. However, inorganic ones must not exceed 350g and a 350ml capacity.

What are the Qantas Airways seat sizes per class for Qantas?

Conclusion

Once you purchase the bag, measure it yourself no matter how accurate the retailer’s description appears, just to be sure.
