What are Chacos and why is a good Chacos size important?
Chaco is an American brand of footwear best known for its product line of adjustable Z-strap sandals for outdoor and water use, often referred to as “Chacos”.
The Chaco brand also offers a selection of fashionable sandals, shoes, flip-flops, boots, and accessories with an outdoor influence.
Using a single strap that loops around the foot through the sole and allows for fit change without the use of additional fasteners defines the flagship series of re-positionable outdoor sandals. The manufacturer provides a repair service, and they are available with a variety of sole kinds and strap configurations to suit different conditions.
However, sizing Chacos is much more than just going down to a whole size. The heel-to-ball measurement instead of overall foot length, like most shoe sizes Chacos.
Proper fitting footwear and a well-supported arch are the building blocks of whole-body health, so getting the right size Chacos is super important.

10 easy steps to measure your feet correctly:
- Measure your feet in the afternoon.
Your feet swell during the day, it’s best to measure your feet at their fullest
- Stand When Measuring
When in a wheelchair there’s no pressure on the feet, so it’s unnecessary to stand up.
- Wear socks
In Chacos sandals you most probably won’t wear socks. But when you plan to, make sure you wear socks when you measure your feet.
- Be precise
- Measure both feet
Measure your left and right foot separately as they’re not the same length. Take the biggest measurement to determine your shoe Size
- Stand on your piece of paper
Keeping your body weight over your foot, trace a thin line around the outside of your entire foot.
- Start drawing
When drawing the line, hold the pen perpendicular to the ground.
- Measure the length of your feet
Measure vertically down the length of your foot tracing. This is your foot length.
- Find your width fitting by drawing or with measuring tape
Measure horizontally across the widest part of your foot tracing. This is your foot width.
- Determine your Chacos size in the conversion charts
Start from the measurement in inches or centimeters and define your size in the charts for men, women or kids
Measuring with a Brannock Device
My overall foot length is just a smidge over 8.5 and my heel-to-ball measurement (right arch length on the Brannock device) is just a smidge under 8.5. My foot width is a solid B, narrow to regular width.
What all this translates to with Chacos is that the typical “go down to the nearest whole size” recommendation is correct for me. So my Chaco size is an 8 even though I typically wear an 8.5 in other shoes.
Any well-trained footwear staff should be able to measure all this for you, but you can also measure yourself. The Brannock device has been around for decades as the measuring standard for footwear and is simple to learn to use.
If you are ordering Chacos online, your best bet for getting the right fit is a Brannock device. All shoe stores have one even if they do not sell Chacos. When shopping for Chaco, amazon customers get a free return shipping charge if the item model doesn’t please them.

There should never be a shoe that is too tight or too loose. We advise your Chacos fit snugly and that you always leave enough space for your finger to pass below the webbing. Make cautious not to over-tighten the toe loop on the sandal with the loop at the bottom.
