Battery Size Chart : what are the sizes of batteries?
The most common battery sizes include AA (1.97″ x 0.55″, 23g), AAA (1.73″ x 0.41″, 11g), C (1.97″ x 1.02″, 46g), D (2.40″ x 1.30″, 85g), and 9V (1.89″ x 1.04″ x 0.67″, 46g), which are used in a variety of applications, ranging from flashlights and remote controls to smoke detectors and portable radios. Why do batteries come in different sizes? Larger items need more electricity. This necessitated the development of larger batteries, more powerful types of batteries, . If you make a mistake in the dimensions of your battery, it will not fit into the machine or tool you want and will be unusable due to insufficient battery capacity. The battery size chart lists all physical dimensions and formats for regular or rechargeable batteries.
The most Standard Battery size:
The most popular battery sizes for tiny household electronics are AA and AAA. These batteries have a nominal voltage of 1.5 volts and are cylindrical. AAA batteries are physically smaller than AA batteries and contain around half the capacity.
The most common battery sizes are AA and AAA, measuring 5.0 cm x 1.4 cm (1.97″ x 0.55″) and 4.4 cm x 1.05 cm (1.73″ x 0.41″) respectively, with weights of 23g and 11g, equivalent to 0.81 oz and 0.39 oz. These batteries are commonly used in devices such as flashlights, remote controls, and other portable electronics

Popular Battery types and their Size
The physical dimensions of most standard batteries in mm, inches, grams or oz, combined with their use in electronic devices they’re made for.
Battery Size | Dimensions (mm) | Dimensions (in) | Weight (g) | Weight (oz) | Common Usage |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
AA | 50mm x 14mm | 1.97″ x 0.55″ | 23 | 0.81 | Flashlights, portable radios, wireless mice |
AAA | 44mm x 10.5mm | 1.73″ x 0.41″ | 11 | 0.39 | TV remote controls, laser pointers, film cameras |
C | 50mm x 26mm | 1.97″ x 1.02″ | 46 | 1.62 | Lanterns, portable radios |
D | 61mm x 33mm | 2.40″ x 1.30″ | 85 | 3.00 | Flashlights, portable radios |
9V | 48mm x 26.5mm x 17mm | 1.89″ x 1.04″ x 0.67″ | 46 | 1.62 | Smoke detectors, handheld radios |
Generally, the larger the battery is, the more capacity it has for energy storage. So even though a big and small battery are rated at 1.5V, the big battery stores more energy and provides a longer battery life.

Battery size chart for button cells format
Button cells, also known as watch batteries, coin batteries, or small single-cell batteries, have a squat cylindrical shape and are typically 1 to 6 mm (0.039 to 0.236 in) high and 5 to 25 mm (0.0197 to 0.984 in) in diameter, resembling a button. Battery cells do not come as rechargeable batteries.

Frequently Asked Questions about Battery sizes
D-sized Batteries are bigger than C-size batteries. Both size batteries are larger than AA and AAA batteries. C-Batteries are 50mm or 1.97 inches in length. 26.2mm or 1.03 inches in diameter. D-Batteries are 61 mm or 2.4 inches in length and 32.0 mm or 1.26 inches in diameter
AAA batteries are smaller compared to AA. AAA-Batteries are 45mm or 1.77 inches in length 10.5 mm or 0.41 inches in diameter. AA-Batteries are 48 mm or 1.89 inches in length and 14.5 mm or 0.57 inches in diameter
An AA cell measures 48–50.5 mm (1.94–1.99 in) in length, including the button terminal—and 14.5 mm (0.53–0.57 in) in diameter.
There are 4 sizes of batteries that are smaller than triple A (AAA) batteries: YYYY (8.4 mm/40.5 mm/6.5 g), 1/2 AAA (10.0 mm, 22.0 mm, 5.3 g), 2/3 AAA (10.0 mm, 29.0 mm, 7.3 g) and 4/5 AAA (10.5 mm, 36.0 mm, 9.3 g)
The cell battery size typically depends on the application and use case. General sizes are typically AA, AAA, C, and D. These cells range in size from 1.5 to 3 volts and range from 0.5 inches wide by 1.75 inches tall to 2.6 inches wide by 6 inches tall.
