Battery Size Chart: what are the sizes of batteries?
This post was last updated on November 7th, 2022 at 08:19 am
The size and format of a battery are crucial in buying criteria. All questions are answered in this Battery Size chart. Why do batteries come in different sizes? Larger items need more electricity. This necessitated the development of larger, more powerful batteries. If you make a mistake in the dimensions of your battery, it will not fit into the machine or tool you want and will be unusable. The size chart list down all battery dimensions and formats you can check the size or the code of the format of the battery. The guide below will explain the relation between battery dimensions and how long they last.

The most common Battery size:
The most popular battery sizes for tiny household electronics are AA and AAA. Both of these batteries have a nominal voltage of 1.5 volts and are cylindrical. AAA batteries are physically smaller than AA batteries and contain around half the capacity.
Most manufacturers claim that alkaline AA or AAA batteries have a shelf life of 5-10 years when maintained at normal temperature (= room temperature). Because alkaline batteries cannot be recharged, they have no cycle life.

Like in any dimension and size regulations, there’s an international standard, set up by IEC but in Anglo-Saxon countries batteries sizes are determined in letters (AA, AAA C, D, etc.), while in other countries a combination of a letter and digit (AA, Lr20, 6Lr61) is used.

Here are the most commonly used batteries sizes in the world
Batteries Sizes
- AA Batteries.
- AAA Batteries.
- C Batteries.
- D Batteries.
- 9V PP3 Batteries.
- 6LR61 Batteries.
- N LR1 Batteries.
- AAAA Batteries.

Generally, the larger the battery is, the more capacity it has for energy storage. So even though a big and small battery are rated at 1.5V, the big battery stores more energy and provides a longer battery life.

Frequently Asked Questions about Battery sizes
D-sized Batteries are bigger than C-size batteries. Both size batteries are larger than AA and AAA batteries. C-Batteries are 50mm or 1.97 inches in length. 26.2mm or 1.03 inches in diameter. D-Batteries are 61 mm or 2.4 inches in length and 32.0 mm or 1.26 inches in diameter
AAA batteries are smaller compared to AA. AAA-Batteries are 45mm or 1.77 inches in length 10.5 mm or 0.41 inches in diameter. AA-Batteries are 48 mm or 1.89 inches in length and 14.5 mm or 0.57 inches in diameter
An AA cell measures 48–50.5 mm (1.94–1.99 in) in length, including the button terminal—and 14.5 mm (0.53–0.57 in) in diameter.
