Cateye Tire Size Chart:  Measurements

CatEye, a top technological pioneer, invented the first flashing bicycle light. One of the first cycle computers included a heart rate monitor,  altimeter, and cadence counter. Bike tires come in various sizes, depending on the bike and the terrain you’re riding on. When buying Cateye tires flashing lights, you’ll need to use the CatEye tire size chart to know which suits your bicycle.

Cateye Tire Size Chart:  Measurements

Initially, there were a variety of measurement techniques, with each nation that produced bicycles having its marking system. The exact size of the bike tire might be found with different numerals in various countries. A uniform method was required as cycling became increasingly worldwide.

Traditional size schemes use the inflated tire’s outer diameter (measured in inches or millimeters). However, the ISO standard notation uses the diameter of the wheel bead seat in millimeters, followed by the inflated tire width in millimeters.

Although these size identifications can be mathematically equal, they can also refer to different size tires that are not interchangeable. Inch-based labels show the width in a decimal (26 1.75) or as a fraction (26 1 34), and although these size identifications can be mathematically equal, they can also refer to different size tires that are not interchangeable. (28 1 12 and 28 1.50 are not the exact sizes.)

Cateye Tire Size Chart: Circumference Reference

Use the chart below as reference for tire circumference.

Please note that the tire size is indicated on the side, most of the times. This chart is thus for reference purposes as the real tire size can always change due to factors such as tire pressure.

You can measure the tire circumference of your bicycle tire by using the following methods;

Rollout Test

A common method used in determining your wheel size that does not require any mathematics is to measure the distance you go in one revolution of the tire while inflating the pressure you regularly use. Here are two ideas on how to go about it:

Wall roll

  • Sit near a wall on your bike.
  • Roll ahead till your valve stem reaches the wheel’s bottom.
  • Make a chalk tape mark on that place with a friend.
  • Return the valve stem to the bottom of the wheel by rolling the wheel forward one revolution.
  • Make a chalk tape mark at that location.
  • In mm, calculate the distance between the two markings.

Water or paint roll

  • On the pavement, splatter a glob of wet paint or water.
  • Continue to ride over it.
  • Your tire should leave a mark on the pavement every time it touches it.
  • You should be able to tell how far apart the marks are (or between multiple spots for even greater accuracy).
  • Measure the distance in millimeters.

Using the calculator option to find size

These days you will find a calculator where you just choose a wheel and tire size from a table or type the mm in the  Dia (mm)” boxes to use the calculator. The calculator returns the expected circumference in millimeters (as used by most modern cycle computers), centimeters (as used by older cycle computers), and inches (as used by older cycle computers (used by some cycle computers).

The tire size calculators above are based on standards such as the ISO/ETRTO (European Tire and Rim Technical Organization) tire size specifications, which define tire size as a tire width and rim circumference in millimeters. If your wheel size isn’t shown in the drop-down menu, just type it in the Dia (mm) area.

Buying Guide & Tips

Bike safety is especially critical during the darker months and on evening rides. When buying the lights accessories, always pay attention to the  basic but crucial features.

The attention of road users whether motorists or bikers is always expected to be paramount as much as you might be having a nice road bike. Brightest modes are better used when the road is not very congested so as to avoid disturbing other road users. Otherwise the light modes are always best.

Light options

Some of the light options you can consider include dynamo lights, steady light, white light, rear lights (-rear light), -exposure lights, wide beam, LED lights, peripheral light, back-up bike lights, 250-lumen rear bike light, basic commuter lights. With reference to Cateye, you can look at Cateye Rapid, Cateye sync, Cateye HL-EL135, Cateye Volt 200 XC. Some f the factors to consider when it comes to beams include beam pattern, beam shots, beam strength, beam shapes, head unit, spread of light. If you want the brightest beam with brightest lights, then be sure to check the beam test comparison data and ensure it is a compliant beam.

Batteries

As you know batteries play a critical role and luckily many makes these days come with built-in rechargeable batteries, which makes battery life inexpensive and saves you the trouble of having to keep checking the battery status.
